Day 1 of WiiGA Tour Open Qualifying delivered a record-setting start Sunday, as Cade Zobrist and Dylan Speirs immediately put their names into the league's history books.
Playing the nine-hole, par-36 Wii Sports Golf course, Speirs set the early standard with a 3-under 33, establishing the first official course record in WiiGA Tour history.
The record didn't last long.
Zobrist followed with an impressive 5-under 31, shooting two strokes better than Speirs and taking the new course record for himself.
| "Seeing Dylan put up a 33 definitely gave me something to chase," Zobrist said. "I knew I had to play a really clean round to beat it."
Speirs, meanwhile, wasn't disappointed with his opening performance.
| "I'm happy with a 33, especially being the first guy to set the record," Speirs said. "Obviously, Cade had other plans."
Elsewhere on the opening day, Cade Martin posted a solid 2-under 34, keeping himself firmly in the mix. Jacob Kopp finished his opening round at 2-over 38.
With Day 1 in the books, Zobrist sits atop the early qualifying leaderboard and owns the first course record in WiiGA Tour history.
And after just one day, the bar has already been set at 31.
The question now is simple: Who can beat it?
